2024 marks the beginning of a new chapter, a blank canvas upon which we can collectively craft our goals as individuals and proud members and stakeholders of our beloved institution. This year holds the promise of untold possibilities, and it is our collective responsibility to unite, seize these opportunities, and further build upon the successes of our past brought about through the immense contributions of all staff/students/strategic partners/numerous stakeholders.
I know you are aware that from the inception of the 9th administration, we have gone out of our way to solicit for help from well-spirited individuals and corporate bodies to assist in infrastructure, scholarship schemes, etc. This is because we prioritize the pursuit of fulfilment and happiness of every member(staff/student) of the University.
In a world fraught with turmoil, our commitment is to be a beacon of positivity, to bring a smile to the people within our space each day. Additionally, we will strive to hold onto the values of compassion, empathy, and faith, knowing that as people of faith, we are called to contribute positively to the well-being of those around us. We pray God to make us more humane this new year than we were ever before and to see God in every human being as we relate with one another.
This year we will strive to foster innovation and integrate technology to enhance teaching, learning, and research. This entails substantial investments in infrastructure and digital platforms to support online and hybrid education. We will cultivate a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary collaboration that positions our institution at the forefront of cutting-edge advancements. The university will evolve into an Afropolitan spirit, where we are locally rooted and globally connected through a focus on globalization and diversity. We will actively promote the internationalization of our university by expanding global partnerships, fostering exchange programs, and engaging in collaborative research endeavours. We will commit to cultivating a diverse and inclusive campus environment that values respect, decency, different perspectives, cultures, and backgrounds. In doing so, we will prepare our students for a globally interconnected world through cross-cultural experiences and language proficiency.
We wish Dr Felicia Ayuwo the immediate past Bursar of the University of Port Harcourt for meritoriously contributing her quota to the development of the University whilst we welcome Dr Godspower Obah the Acting Bursar on board the management team wishing him God’s grace as he begins the onerous duties of the Bursar of the University albeit in acting capacity.
We also appreciate the immense contributions of the Senator Andrew Uchendu led Governing Council during their tour of duty in the University of Port Harcourt.
This year, there is already in place a renewed emphasis on Research Excellence and Industry Collaboration. We will encourage and support the best minds among us to strengthen our research capabilities and engage in cutting-edge research. By fostering partnerships with industries, we aim to bridge the gap between academia and real-world applications. Through interdisciplinary research initiatives, we will address societal challenges and contribute to the advancement of knowledge and innovation. Lastly, we reaffirm our commitment to Student-Centric Education. This involves prioritizing student success, well-being, and holistic development. We will offer flexible and personalized learning pathways, embracing online, experiential, and project-based opportunities. Our students will receive robust career development support, emphasizing the acquisition of practical skills and adaptability to prepare them for the challenges of the ever-evolving global landscape.
In conclusion, we urge each member of our community to embrace these values with enthusiasm and dedication. My policy of open door and democratized community will continue, and together, we shall navigate the journey of 2024, realizing our collective vision for an even more vibrant, inclusive, and innovative University of Port Harcourt.
